Estimated new audience: 40

On the evening of Monday, 16th June, the final event in the series The Magic of Meditation with Sister Jayanti took place at the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham.

Among the notable guests were Dr. Venkatachalam Murugan, Consul General of India in Birmingham, the Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal MBE and Arun and Sangeeta Bajaj, owners of XL Radio. The MC for the event was Brian Fitzgerald.

Sister Jayanti opened with the words “Om Shanti”“Om means I and shanti means peace. It’s a lovely introduction to ourselves,” she explained. She guided the audience to reflect on the timeless question: “Who am I?” and encouraged a journey inward to rediscover our original identity. “The first step is this: knowing who I am. Your own experimenting with this will lead you to the experience of ‘the inner being that I am.'”

A guided meditation followed, inviting attendees to visualise a point of light and connect with the peace within. “Peace feels comfortable and very familiar. This is who I am, my original and natural state of being is peace.”

Sister Jayanti emphasised the power of reconnecting with qualities such as peace, love and truth. “When I’m in touch with my original qualities, I value myself, recognise who I truly am, and even come to love myself.” She explained that understanding the self enables us to love others: “Love your neighbour as yourself” begins with self-respect.

Touching on the upcoming UN International Day of Yoga, she introduced Raja Yoga – yoga of the mind – as a practice of communication with the Divine. “I, the being of light, connect with the Supreme who is also a being of light – and that is when the real magic happens.”

She described meditation as a means to transform not only the self but the world. “Meditation isn’t for myself alone – it enables me to help the world.” The talk concluded with a vision of collective change: “We are moving into the era of light… with help from the One above, it is all of us who will make this happen.”

The final meditation deepened the experience of peace and love, first within the self, then drawing power from the Supreme and radiating healing vibrations to the self, nature and the world.

In the Q&A, Sister Jayanti addressed themes such as discernment, detachment, and calming the mind. “Give yourself space, pause… connect with peace and let your mind become calm. Then there will be greater clarity.” She highlighted the importance of a clean and strong conscience: “It is time to awaken to conscience, cleanse it and make it strong – that happens through meditation.”

Sister Jayanti warmly invited all to explore further through the Raja Yoga meditation course.

The evening lived up to its title – The Magic of Meditation – leaving hearts uplifted and minds inspired.

After the event, Dr. Venkatachalam Murugan, Consul General of India in Birmingham, said how happy he was to have been present: “I was trying to find out what was happiness and Sister Jayanti talked about the stock of love, the stock of happiness, the stock of peace that we have to make effort to build within ourselves.” He particularly appreciated the meditation: “The  feeling was so peaceful – I understand meditation but the way she taught us today was very different.”

The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Councillor Zafar Iqbal MBE shared: “A really inspiring talk for me – the way she spoke, the way she delivered her lecture and the way she answered the questions…  I’ve learned a lot from the session and I am hoping to do some of the things they’ve offered today. I encourage all citizens to take up the courses…”

“Whatever questions I had in my mind, they all got answered,” Was the experience of one woman. “It was very clear and concise. The way she explained it really helped us a lot.”
