Artificial Intelligence - How concerned should we be?

Views about AI range from a hope that it may help save humanity, to a belief that it spells doom for us all.  Do machines with AI just do as they are told, or can they develop an intelligence of their own? An understanding of the spiritual dimension of intelligence may help us find an answer.
