Re-awakening the Conscience
The Magic of Meditation with Sister Jayanti at Harmony House, Leicester – Friday 6 June, 2025
On Friday, 6 June, Harmony House in Leicester welcomed 380 guests for an evening with Sister Jayanti on “The Magic of Meditation.” The hall was filled to capacity, with many local dignitaries, special guests and individuals new to the Brahma Kumaris attending. There were also 85 online connections.
Sister Jayanti, who was interviewed earlier that day on Leicester-based Hindi radio station Radio Utsav., spoke about how meditation is a way to awaken the ‘intellect’ or conscience, or in Hindi the ‘buddhi’ – the inner capacity to discern and decide, so that we can make the right choices in our lives and act in a way that is aligned with our core values and with the Divine.
What empowers the ‘buddhi’, she explained, is first to recognise and experience the self as a spiritual being – “a point of light with the qualities of peace, love and truth”. Then, in that awareness, we are able to connect with the Divine so that we can receive the guidance and strength to go beyond the pull of our own emotions or of external influences.
“Controlling things outside is almost impossible. But controlling what is going on within – that we can attempt. We can then find the stillness inside that gives perspective on what is outside.”
She explained that “peace, joy, and truth are not outside – they are already within us. Meditation is the way to rediscover those hidden treasures.”
“In meditation I am going to the core of my being, the inner being, the soul, the point of light. When I forget myself, the light is switched off. When I know myself, the light shines. The trick is managing your light through the day and to keep your light shining. I have to make the effort to keep my own light shining.”
Brother Parmjit, who was MC for the evening also took up some of the points with further questions beforeSister Jayanti led the audience in the final meditation, leading everyone into an experience of that light.
After the event, one local councillor said, “I had a very busy and not very pleasant afternoon… but as soon as I came here, it all disappeared. It really was amazing. I know this is what I have to do for myself – I have to meditate.” A young woman commented: “The feeling I’m taking away today? Lightness.”
