Yoga in Action
The Magic of Meditation with Sister Jayanti at Cambridge Inner Space, Saturday 7th June, 2025
On Saturday, 7 June, Cambridge Inner Space hosted the third of a series of UK events with Sister Jayanti on *“The Magic of Meditation”. *Some 30 attended in person and there were 30 online connections.
The programme commenced with a song sung by Sister Shivangi: ‘I am light”, Sarah Fitzgerald, MC for the day, opened by saying that magic is very much needed in the world today.
Sister Jayanti introduced the core principles of Raja Yoga meditation, emphasising that true meditation is not about closing the eyes or suppressing thoughts, but about maintaining an elevated awareness amidst the routine of daily life. She explored the concept of ‘Karma Yoga’ or meditation in action, underlining the importance of staying balanced even in challenging environments.
Meditation, she said, is not a withdrawal from the world, but a deeper engagement with it through a higher consciousness.
“Yoga means union, communication, connection – connecting with the self and with the Source, and through that receiving power, so that I can do all the things that I need to do in the world.”
Throughout the session, Sister Jayanti emphasised the importance of recognising the self as the inner being and rediscovering our innate virtues such as peace, love, and truth—often obscured by acquired emotional patterns like anger and jealousy. Through meditation, she explained, these pure qualities can be reawakened and lived.
In response to audience questions, Sister Jayanti offered profound insights on a variety of topics:
- On grief, she explained that true love is between souls and letting go honours both souls involved.
- Regarding relationships, she said “When I’m experiencing my own identity as the inner being, I also see that other person as a being of light,” and that “brings down barriers.”
- On overcoming fear, she emphasised that individual peace is the key to collective transformation, and gave the example of some Harvard University research which found that “one act of kindness can impact 125 others.”
She concluded with practical tips for protecting our personal energy, including daily spiritual connection, self-awareness and mental discipline. A final guided meditation invited all to observe their thoughts, reconnect with their inner light, and re-experience peace as their true nature.
After the event one member of the audience shared her experience: “The meditation felt serene and quite insightful. I experienced peace. Thank you.” Another said: “One word to summarise today… it would be ‘enlightening’.
